In her times in Paris, Charlotte Wankel met with Le Corbusier, a Swiss avant-garde architect famous for his cubist work. His work was usually decoration-less and void of any bright colors as he focused primarily on practicity. The gray rectangular shapes on the right side are most likely inspired by his work.
