The research areas of Jan von Bonsdorff (b. 1959) are the trade and transfer of church art in the medieval Baltic sea area, medieval wooden sculpture in the same area, 19th century Scandinavian painting, and general issues concerning pictorial conventions, visual narration and images as carriers of meaning.
