Are you a new lab user? Then you have to follow a three-step process to use the lab: 1 Project application and user agreement, 2. Introduction and training, 3. Booking of rooms.

Are you an experienced lab user starting a new project? Then you still need to fill in a new project application and sign a user agreement, and potentially get additional training with technical equipment or software in consultation with the Lab engineer.

1. Mailing list

The lab has a mailing list (multiling-lab@iln.uio.no) in which lab updates are shared. To be added to the mailing list, send an email to the lab manager (franziko@uio.no).

2. Access to lab

To enter the lab, you need special access rights. You can request lab access by sending an email to the lab manager (franziko@uio.no) including the following information: Full name, UiO user name, UiO card number. You can then enter the lab using your UiO card and respective 4-digit code. Please be patient with the lab doors - they have a life of their own. It helps to try several times and to type in the code slowly.

2. Project application and user agreement

Before using the lab, the project/study needs to be authorized by the lab leadership. All projects need to adhere to the following Project Guidelines - please read them carefully before getting started with a project application. For submitting a project application, fill in the following Nettskjema. New lab projects will be discussed in an open lab meeting at which intersted lab users and the lab leadership will participate and give feedback about the design, method, and feasability. Once a lab project is approved, a user agreement will be set up that contains a short project description, time plan, estimated lab hours, and data management information.

3. Introduction and training

The lab user/project manager needs to book a meeting with the lab manager/lab engineer to discuss technical, methodological and ethical issues and any potential costs. This is especially critical if grant and other funding applications make reference to the lab. At the meeting with the lab manager, you will get a tour of the lab, get familiarized with the lab’s routines, guidelines, and code of conduct, and learn how to handle the lab equipment you are interested in. To get an overview of the lab's equipment, see Rooms and equipment. After successful training, you will get permission to book lab rooms, use the lab equipment you have been trained in, and get granted access to the lab facilities using your student, employee or guest card.

4. Booking of rooms

The three testing rooms of the lab (Video studio, Eye-tracking room, EEG room) can be booked via the Outlook calendar system of the University of Oslo. You can find more information on booking here: Booking rooms.

5. Data storage

For storing lab-related data, the Socio-Cognitive lab offers a platform for storing up to red data on lagringshotell 'storage hotel': \\lagringshotell.uio.no\hf-iln-sociocognitivelab. More information about the lab's lagringshotell can be found here under Data Management
