Nonverbal Stroop (Presentation Experiment)

The nonverbal stroop experiment is a solitaire style experiment with a deck of cards and four appropriate target locations. The card show two bands of colors, one of which is marked with a white cross.

The goal is to place the cards in the correct location based on the color of the band with the cross.

Layout of test

Rules

There are two phases, a congruent phase and an incongruent phase. There is a stack of cards for each of them. During the first phase the color is the same on both of the bands, but the indicator cross will move position. During the second phase, the incongruent phase, the colors of both bands are randomized together with the position of the indicator. During this phase, it is the position of the indicator that will be important to determine a valid placement of the card. While the cards are randomized, the cards are also numbered and should be placed in the numbered sequence every time.


The deck is turned one card at a time and the card placed on the card shape on the board above the token band of color matching the indicated color on the card. During a paper based card test it is the number of valid placements and the overall time of the trial that is measured. During the computerized version there will also be a time available from the card is made available to the card is placed.

Caveats

Nonverbal Stroop Card Sorting Test (NSCST) was originally developed by Christopher Koch, Ph.D. and Gale Roid, Ph.D. and is developed as a paper card test, sold by Stoelting [1] The legality of using this test in another format than the original paper format has yet to be verified.
