seNorge his is an open portal on the Internet that shows daily updated maps of snow, weather and water conditions and climate in Norway - and much more.

Days Maps are available from 1957 to the present, and these are based on observed and interpolated temperature and precipitation. In addition, the map 9 days in the future based on weather forecasts. Dozens theme has a total of several hundred thousand maps. It is also possible to view and download time series from the map and from observation stations to NVE and met.no.

The four main themes of seNorge are:

  • Snow: Snow map for Norway. See map including of snow, fresh snow, ski conditions, melting snow, snow depth and deviation from normal.
  • Water: Water Map of Norway. See map including of water saturation in the soil and how much water comes from rain and melting snow.
  • Weather: Maps for Norway. View maps of precipitation and air temperature, both day and week, and maps that show deviations from normal.
  • Climate: Map of climate and climate scenarios for Norway. See map of normals and future scenarios including precipitation, temperature, snow, and runoff.

The service is useful for example handling of threats from floods, drought, energy shortage, landslides and climate change - and for the enjoyment of outdoor recreation and business.

seNorge is a collaboration between NVE, met.noand Norwegian Mapping Authority.

seNorge dataset at UiO
A copy of seNorge data for several parameters is available in the following folders.
- K:\data\GIS\SeNorge (Windows)
- /felles/data/GIS/SeNorge (Linux)

Practical information for use

Information on parameters
- gwb_eva: evapotranspiration, uint8, values /10, nodata: 255
- rr: precipitation, uint16, values /10, nodata: 10000
- sca: snow cover area: uint8, value in %, nodata: 255
- sd: snow depth, uint16, values /10, nodata: 65535.
- swe: snow water equivalent, uint16, values /10, nodata: nodata: 65535
- swepr: snow water equivalent in percent of the daily normal, uint8, value in %, nodata: 255
- tm: temperature, uint16, values /10 - 273,15, nodata: 10000

Geographic information
1550x1195 km  -> 1852250 km2

Binary files where the first value starts at the upper left corner (north-west) then continues to the right (east) 1195 values. Then the values continues on the row below (1 km south).

Last value then is located in lower right corner (South-East)

The positioning system is in Utm 33N koordinates:
- LowerLeftEast -75000
- LowerLeftNorth 6450000

- UpperRightEast 1120000
- UpperRightNorth 8000000

The seNorge grids (1-1195 and 1-1550) start at
x(lower left corner) =  -75000
y(lower left corner) = 6450000
The cell size is 1000.

That means, the first grid point (1/1) on the lower left, has the
coordinates:
-74500/6450500.
and the first grid point on the upper right corner has the coordinates:
-74500/7999500.
