TITLE: Endpoint security & mobility

ABSTRACT: An adversary's physical access to a mobile device often makes existing security controls fail - why? This speaking session will demonstrate creative methods to exploit endpoints - that is, mobile units. It will include hands-on demonstrations of coldboot attacks, hacking through FireWire and how to locate encryption keys in mobile device RAM. Potential countermeasures are outlined, and we'll focus on why end point security is important - and difficult.

SPEAKER: Carsten Maartmann-Moe (Ernst & Young)

BIO: Carsten Maartmann-Moe finished his MSc at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 2008 within the field of telematics and information security, and with exchange at ISG at Royal Holloway, University of London. He wrote his Masters thesis on cryptographic key discovery and extraction for the National Criminal Investigation Service in Norway, and is keenly interested in alternative attack vectors on secure systems. At the age of 14, Carsten repeatedly and unintentionally infected his fathers PC with an assorted range of computer viruses, and thus became interested in information security and hacking. His interests nowadays still include penetration testing and ethical hacking, mixed with digital forensics, privacy issues, web application security, security awareness and network security. Carsten currently works with security and penetration testing, IT audits and risk management at Ernst & Young in Norway, and blogs at http://www.breaknenter.org.
