The introduction of a new national ID card is justified by the need for strengthening identity in areas where it is relatively "easy" to forge identity such as for emergency passports, driving licenses and credit cards. Law enforcement agencies are currently wasting considerable time and are at risk of making mistakes when identifying individuals because existing identity credentials often can not be trusted. The goal of the national ID card is to enable robust and timely identification of individuals.
