Workstations

There are a total of 6 workstations at Sonen; 3 windows and 3 linux machines.

Linux workstations

Sonen disposes 3 standard ifi client linux machines. One of which is designated to our electronics lab.

Windows CAD workstations

Sonen disposes 3 Windows workstations with improved hardware for CAD and VR applications.

Software

The CAD workstations has the following software installed. If you wish for other software to be installed, please contact the engineer.

Modeling

Solidworks 3D modeling tool for parts and assemblies Blender 3D modeling tool suited for creating 3d art and figures

Slicers

Slicer is a software that slices a 3d model into 2D layers. Slicers are used to generate gcode and other files that a 3d printer can interpret. The printers at Sonen use different slicers.

• Ultimaker Cura is used for the Ultimaker 2+ and Creality CR-10S Pro V2
• Formlabs Preform is used for the Formlabs Form 2
• PrusaSlicer is used for the Prusa. You can also use cura for the prusa, however you will not be able to use its multi material functionality

• Silhouette Studio is used for the Vinyl cutter

VR

To use VR please contact Sonen staff here All of the CAD machines has steam installed, however only viktor is currently set up for VR.

Currently viktor has the following VR games installed:

• Google earth VR
• The lab
