Meeting Notes

Present: Dag Kristian, Ørjan, Richard, Thomas, Franzi, Nigar, Khobaib

Objectives:

  • discuss new strategy for LagLivLab revival: what are the main ingredients for a functioning biomakerspace?
  1. Infrastructure
  2. Financing
  3. Supervision & training
  4. Students
  5. Project ideas
  • draft some potential project ideas and advertising for a new cohort of LagLivLab

We need to divide ourselves in three groups:

  1. Advertising
  2. Project ideas
  3. Arranging meetings

Each one of these tasks is time consuming, so we need to allocate who will be doing what. Nigar suggested that we have an Open Day for LagLivLab where we present new potential project ideas to the students, and show them around the lab facilities.

PROJECT IDEAS:

We then proceeded to discuss project ideas with everyone in the room. Some of the ideas were:

  • Ørjan: how much power can you generate from bodies potentials? Maybe the potentials from our bodies can we used to produce music, or simply control other things? Machine interactions using human bodies is keyword here.
  • Nigar: cellular fluid dynamics. crowd dynamics and labyrinths using cells or other microswimmers. Can also be combined with light sensitivity. Maybe it can also be combined with some research at PoreLab - getting microswimmers to go through labyrinths or other obstacles.
  • Franzi: biological calculators. Music for cells - studying the response of fluorescently tagged cells to ultrasound (visual studies)
  • Khobaib: electrorotation of pickering droplets
  • Richard: Viscek model in n-dimensions. Cell mixing vs sorting of cells. Reaction-diffusion without signal molecules.
  • Thomas: light-sensitive algae to make instant pictures.
  • Nigar & Ørjan & Dag Kristian: electrorotation saga

We also need to make a list of all equipment and infrastructure that we have, as well as which projects are reasonable.

MEETING OUTCOMES:

We have decided to divide ourselves like this:

  1. Advertising: Nigar & Dag Kristian
  2. Project ideas: Ørjan, Thomas & Richard
  3. Arranging meetings: Franzi & Dag Kristian

Nigar will contact alumni from LagLivLab for the open day, and perhaps an orientation meeting to discuss what worked and what did not.

We will concentrate our LagLivLab activities to the department of physics - it was difficult to maintain projects at HTH.

Agenda for next time:

  1. First meeting: Meeting with us and alumni. We need to get the following things done before this meeting:
    1. project webpage outline done
    2. advertisement started
    3. date for the second meeting ready Meeting Wednesday 14.02 15:00
  2. Second meeting: Prep for Open Day by discussing projects and experiments, as well as supervision capabilities. Discuss feasibility of projects and how the experiments went. Meeting Wednesday 21.02 15:00: prep for Open Day
  3. Third meeting: Open Day/meeting new students: meeting Wednesday of 26.02-01.03
