TITLE: Breaking the Unbreakable Quantum Key Distribution
ABSTRACT: Quantum key distribution is by many seen as a fundamental building block for strong cryptography in the future. In theory it is impossible to intercept a secret key transmitted through a quantum channel without detection. However, imperfect implementations can make it possible to intercept keys without detection. We have demonstrated this by successfully attacking and breaking two commercially available quantum key distribution products. This spectacular result which is described in a recent article in Nature Photonics has received wide international attention. This presentation describes the theoretical background and the practical attacks on quantum key distribution.
