TITLE: Interoperable Voice and Data Communication with SCIP
ABSTRACT: Previously, secure voice and data communication has been achieved using encryption mechanisms over a homogeneous communication infrastructure. With the development in communication technologies (e.g. GSM, UMTS, PSTN, ISDN, VoIP) this approach has resulted in non-interoperable solutions. In order to make the security independent of the underlying communication channel, an application layer protocol named SCIP (Secure Communications Interoperability Protocol) has been developed by the US Government. This presentation provides a brief history, capabilities, scenarios and current status of SCIP.
