Social events at NCMM

NCMM has a social committee that organizes social activities for NCMM staff, as well as several other standing or ad hoc committees. All NCMM staff may be asked to be part of such committees. Assignments are usually made on a voluntary basis, but group leaders can assign group members if no one has volunteered.

Celebrations and other social events

• Summer party → The NCMM social committee arranges a yearly summer party for NCMM staff with families. Usually a common barbecue with outdoor games and fun activities.

• Christmas party → The NCMM Christmas Party Committee arranges the annual Christmas party for NCMM staff.

• Celebration with cake and bubbly → At NCMM we celebrate grants, new publications, new babies and PhD thesis defenses with cake and bubbly. All are welcome to join in these celebrations.

• Joint NCMM breakfast → Approximately 4 times per year the NCMM social committee arranges a common breakfast. All are welcome to share sandwiches, coffee and fruit.

Common meetings and retreats

• Institute meetings → Six times per year, the Centre Director calls an institute meeting, where newcomers are introduced and where everyone gets updated on current news.

• Tuesday seminars → The Tuesday Seminar is most often presentations given by PhD students and PostDocs from NCMM, and creates a forum that promotes scientific interactions. Every now & then we invite more senior national or international speakers to give new impulses. When we do, we call the seminar NCMM International Seminar. For the international seminars we also often invite students and post-docs to register for lunch with the invited speaker.

• NCMM scientific retreats → Once per year all staff go out of Oslo for a two-day event, where everybody presents ongoing research and socialize across the research groups.
