Data management and storage

For storing lab-related data the lab offers a folder on lagringshotellet (= storage hotel), a UiO network-attached storage for storage of large quantities of data. It is secured for up to red data. It is familiar to many as it looks like a Home Drive or Fellesområde (Windows File Explorer). You can access it from UiO-network or from UiO-machines.

How to access lagringshotell from computer?

Start File Explorer and type in \\lagringshotell.uio.no in the address line. Here you will find and overview of every folder on Lagringshotellet. You will only have access to folders you have been granted access. The folder for your lab is called hf-iln-sociocognitivelab, double-click that to get to your sub-folders. You can easily make a shortcut by dragging the Folder on to your desktop.

How to access lagringshotell from lab pc?

Access to lagringshotell is possible from the main lab pc (where files from AV system are sent to, called "small pc").

Step 1: Click on shortcut to lagringshotell on desktop. Log onto lagringshotell with your own UiO credentials Username: username@uio.no + password). DO NOT CLICK: "Remember my credentials”.

Step 2:You have two options to get to lab’s folder “hf-iln-sociocognitive lab”. Either click on icon for lab's lagringshotell on desktop to directly get to target folder. Or navigate to lagringshotell folder in the overview of all storage hotell folders at UiO.

Step 3: Save files in correct place in lagringshotell (e.g. your project folder)

Step 4: Restart lab pc! – Otherwise next lab user has access to your personal lagringshotell

Folder structure and data flow

You will find the folder Durable, Research, Students folder here. Folders have different permissions depending on user groups.

Durable (naming standard from TSD) is where the raw data. It is only data manager who have full permissions here. You can read and download data, but not edit it. In order to get raw data stored, get in touch with the data manager (contact-lab@iln.uio.no) and agree on folder strucutre, naming conventions and frequency of data transfer.

The folder Research and Students is where lab users have full access and can store, copy and process data. The folder "Research is for the storage of data by research projects and the folder "Students" specifically for student projects. Each project can create their own project folder and manages the internal folder structure and compliance with their data management plan themselves.

It is possible to apply for protected project folders that are only accessible to a subgroup of lab users, e.g. the project members.
